June 19th 1933: Your Sub-Committee report that this Congress [Fourth International Congress on Accounting] is to be held in London
from the 17th to the 21st July, and they recommend that Councillor Cooper and the General Manager be authorised to attend such Congress.
July
17th 1933: The Committee were informed that circumstances had arisen to prevent Councillor Cooper and the General Manager attending
the fourth Annual Congress on Accounting to be held in London from the 17th to the 21st July next, and it was:
RESOLVED:- That the
decision [to authorise attendance] be rescinded.
July 26th 1933 [Resolution of the City Council's General Purposes Committee]:RESOLVED:- That the various Committees of the Council be advised that, except in exceptional circumstances, the number of delegates,
including Officials, appointed to attend, at the expense of the Council, recognised conferences should not exceed three, any exceptional
cases being referred to this Committee for decision.
January 21st 1935: The General Manager reported that the centenary celebrations
of the Airdrie Savings Bank would take place on February 7th and that the Chairman and himself had been invited to attend.
February
18th 1935: The Committee were informed that the Third International Thrift Congress would be held in Paris commencing on the 20th
May, and the General Manager has been requested to forward the names of any representatives of the Bank proposing to attend the Congress,
when details would be forwarded to such representatives.
[The Committee resolved that either the Chairman or a member of the
Committee with the General Manager be appointed representatives to attend the Congress.]
February 18th 1935: The General Manager
reported that he had been invited by the Town Clerk of Stoke-on-Trent to give evidence in support of a clause in a General Powers
Bill to establish a Municipal Bank in Stoke-on-Trent.
April 15th 1935: The General Manager reported that the International Thrift Congress would be held in Paris from May 20th to May 25th and as the next ordinary meeting of the Bank Committee was fixed for the 20th May, it was decided to alter the date of this meeting to the 27th May.

Manager on the proceedings at the Third International Thrift Congress held in Paris, May 20th to 25th, 1935.
February 17th
1936: The General Manager stated that an invitation had been received for the Bank to be represented at the Centenary celebrations
of the Glasgow and Edinburgh Savings Banks to be held on March 19th and 20th this year.
The Committee resolved that the Chairman
and General Manager should attend as reported on April 14th 1936:
Centenary Celebrations - Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Your Chairman
and General Manager represented the Bank at the Centenary Celebrations in connection with the Glasgow Savings Bank on the 19th March
1936, and the Edinburgh Savings Bank the following day.
The proceedings were attended by civic representatives of the respective
cities, by representatives of the Government, and Government Departments, and by many who are connected with savings banks in various
parts of Great Britain.
An interesting representative was Mr Carl Fischer, the Head of the Austrian Savings Banks, who spoke
at both meetings.
The achievements of the two Banks concerned over such a long period of years afforded the various speakers
opportunities of eulogising the services rendered by many whose names are famous in connection with the teaching of thrift, and in
particular the speech of the Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr W S Morrison, KC, MP) was a fine tribute to the Savings Banks
movement, and a plea for co-operation between all organisations dealing with thrift and savings.
The gathering afforded your
Chairman and General Manager opportunities of talking over points of administration which are common to the Trustee Savings Banks
and this Bank, and the exchange of views should be mutually helpful.
May 24th 1937: Trustee Savings Banks Association - Annual
Conference
This Conference is to be held at Nottingham from the 15th - 17th June, and it is recommended that the Chairman of
the General Committee and the General Manager be appointed to represent the Bank.
November 12th 1937: The General Manager read
a letter which had been addressed to the Chairman by Mr A Spottiswoode Ritchie, one of the Trustees forming a deputation from the
Edinburgh Savings Bank who had recently visited the Head Office of the Municipal Bank, and made enquiries regarding the building and
generally into the system of working of the Municipal Bank. The deputation was received by Alderman Barrow, Councillor Cooper and
Councillor Martineau, and the letter expressed their appreciation of the courtesy and kindness extended to them.
The Edinburgh
Savings Banks are contemplating new Head Offices, and the visit was made with the object of seeing what had been done in Birmingham.
A
similar letter of appreciation had been received by the General Manager from the Actuary of the Edinburgh Savings Bank.
April
17th 1939: Your [Finance & General Purposes] Sub-Committee report that an invitation has been received to appoint representatives
to attend the International Thrift Congress to be held in Berlin in 1940, at which the General Manager has also been invited to submit
a paper. Your Sub-Committee are of opinion that membership of the Institute should be continued, and consideration given to appointing
representatives to attend the Congress and the submission of a paper by the General Manager thereto.
The recommendation in the
foregoing report relating to the International Thrift Congress was negatived [by the Bank Committee], and it was:
RESOLVED:- That notice be given to the International Thrift Institute of the intention of the Bank to discontinue membership; also that it is not proposed to be represented at the International Thrift Congress to be held in 1940.
