Birmingham Municipal Bank

This website records the history of the
Birmingham Municipal Bank (BMB).
 
The BMB was created in the aftermath of the
First World War as a savings and housing bank
for the citizens of Birmingham.
 
It replaced the temporary wartime
Birmingham Corporation Savings Bank
that existed from
September 29th 1916 to November 17th 1919.
 
The BMB was set up as a department of the City of Birmingham Corporation on September 1st 1919.
 
The Bank's status changed when it became a Trustee Savings Bank (TSB) in 1976, before amalgamating with the TSB of the Midlands
to become part of the
TSB of Birmingham and the Midlands
on November 20th 1979.
 
For the purpose of this website,
the history of the BMB runs from
September 29th 1916 to November 20th 1979.
